Find Affordable Doctoral Robes

Rahman Abdul asked:

One of the most important requirements for a doctoral course is to participate in the commencement exercises it to wear proper doctoral robes. A lot of universities are having a problem with their doctoral graduates because they do not wear the proper doctoral robes for their degree. Wearing appropriate doctoral robes is important this is the key to make the ceremony more organized and peaceful. The actual price of most robes ranges from $30 to $60. Some of you may have a very low budget for your robes. To solve this very common problem, all you have to do is to research a lot of stores that offer doctoral robes:

? Buy earlier to avoid high demand in price of doctoral robes. As the month of graduation approaches, the prices of gowns and other graduation gowns tend to increase. To avoid having expenses you have to buy earlier before the graduation month approach. Buy two to three months before the start of May and June. Within this month, the sale of robes is still not in demand and the price is very affordable.

? Measure your size accurately to avoid traveling back to the store and spending for transportation. Another way to save more is to purchase online. Purchasing online robes will save you from transportation expenses. Most website also offers great discount, especially if you buy robes three months before the graduation month started.

? Take a look at your own university first, before buying outside. Some universities have their own stores where you can buy doctoral robes at the right price. List down all important details and compare the prices from outside stores. If prices at your school store are a lot higher you can buy from outside stores. But you have to take a look at the design first before you buy the appropriate design for your doctoral robes.

? You may also choose to rent instead of buying your own. It is the most practical way of saving yourself from too much expense. You have to check carefully the robes that you will rent to avoid renting low quality robes. There are reputable stores that are popular in renting doctoral robes and other graduation needs. Encourage some colleagues to rent in bulk to avail more discounts.

? Take a look at the classified page of newspapers for second hand robes that are being sold for affordable prices. People who buy their own robes may want to sell it for an affordable price. Search at the local ads to locate those people who want to sell their robes. Examine the gown before purchasing because it might be different on the gown that you need.

What Are the Types of Sea Food? – I

Subhash Kumar Tiwari asked:

When you are on beach there are lots of things to do, but what to eat. If you are omnivorous than sea food could be relished. There are so many type of sea food this articles highlights all types of sea food.

When you think of Blue Ocean’s creatures there are so many name to be counted but fish comes first. There are so many small-large, colorful fish are used as sea food.

Anchovy – anchovy are a family of small, common, salt-water forage fish, found in Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans Anchovy are classified as on oily fish. Anchovies are small, green fish with blue reflections due to silver longitudinal stripe that runs from the base of the caudal fin. Anchovies are also eaten by humans. When preserved by being gutted and salted in brine matured, then packed in oil or salt, they acquire a characteristic strong flavor.

Basa – The Basa fish is a type of cat fish. These fish are important food fish with an international market. They are often labeled in north America as Basa fish or bocourti. In the UK the species is known mainly as river cobbler with basa also being used on occasion. In Europe these fish are commonly marketed as pangassius or panga. The body of a basa fish is stout and heavy. The rounded head is broader than it is long, the blunt snout having a white band on its muzzle.

Bass- is a name shared by many different species of popular game fish The term encompasses both fresh water and marine specious. All belong to the large order perciformes. or perch-like fishes, and in fact the word bass comes from Middle English bars, meaning perch.

The black cod or smallscaled cod, is a marine cod icefish. The juveniles are silvery in appearance with a pronounced. This is also called sablefish, butterfish, blue cod, candlefish etc.

The Bombay duck or bummalo- despite its name its not a duck is a lizard fish It is native to the waters between Mumbai and kutch in the Arabian sea. Small number are also found in the Bay of Bangal. The great number is also cought in chine sea. The fish is often dried and salted before it is consumed. It is eaten as fried in buter, curry and pickle.

Brill – Brill is a specious of the flate fish. It can be found in North Atlantic, Baltic sea Mediterranean, primarily in deeper offshore waters. The brill have slender bodies, brown with lighter and darker coloured flecks covering its body, excluding the tailfin; the underside of the fish is usually cream coloured or pinkish white. Like other flatfish the brill has the ability to match its colour to the surroundings.

Best Horse Names of All Time

Rory Gold asked:

There are a lot of rules when it comes to naming a horse for example no obscenities, you can’t repeat the name of a Triple Crown or Breeders Cup Champion and if a horse is in the hall of fame horse his name is off limits so that forces horse owners to be creative.

I’ve scoured the Internet; I’ve called some of the oldest horse handicappers I know looking for the best, the coolest, the most suggestive and downright questionable names we could come up with.

When I made my selections I asked myself does this name make me smile. Does the name create a powerful image in my mind? Can I say this name in front of my mother without feeling awkward? Let’s have a look.

The Past 10 years

The Jockey Club has definitely tightened up what they consider acceptable thoroughbred names so the past ten years are not nearly as colorful as the 100 plus years before. Here are a few of the best horse names of the past 10 years.

Funny Cide – The 2003 Derby winners name is a play on his fathers name Distorted Humor and his mothers Belle’s Good Cide. But to me the name Funny Cide sounds like a Superman villain some sort of Bizarro World version of Jack Kevorkian.

Big Brown – Named after UPS, Big Brown delivered the perfect product placement. UPS contractor Paul Pompa Jr. named his horse after his biggest customer. Now if only Kit Kat candy bars and Bombay Sapphire Gin would name a horse after me.

Stevie Wonderboy – Owner Merv Griffin said of his horse, “My horse isn’t blind he just wears big sunglasses.

Just Really Cool Names

Tabasco Cat – The 1994 Belmont stakes winner was as fiery as his name suggestions. Tabasco Cat put the son of trainer D. Wayne Lukas in a coma for several weeks after breaking lose during a training session.

Nutzapper – Nutzapper was the name given to Andy Hillis’ gelding horse until the Jockey Club figured out the name had nothing to do with cooking chestnuts in oil. The horse is currently named Awaiting Justice.

Ghostzapper – Ok maybe I like the name zapper for a horse but Ghostzapper not only had a cool name; he has the heart of a lion. After winning the 2004 breeders cup he could have retired to stud, earning a cool $200,000 per go round (My fees are significantly less) he came back for one more race easily winning the 2005 Metropolitan Handicap.

Ready for Battle

Everyday in the sporting world we use the analogies of war and horseracing is no different, here are some horses I would have gladly rode into battle.

Man o’War – Man o’War won every race but one. Who was the only horse to beat the legend? The horse that beat him was named “Upset” and thus popularized the term for an underdog victory.

War Admiral – Sired by Man o’War, War Admiral was the winner in 21 of his 26 starts with 3 places and a show, the only race the Admiral lost was his 1938 match race against Seabiscuit but on the bright side we all got a fantastic movie because of it.

Battleship – There was no sinking this horse, Battleship was the only horse to with both the American Grand National and the prestigious British Grand National.

The Kid Stays in the Picture

The entertainment industry and the horseracing industry often go hand in hand. Several horses take their name from their celebrity owners or big movie productions and Hollywood, always looking for a good story, will produce a blockbuster featuring one of these famous thoroughbreds. Please note Bobcat Goldthwait vehicle Hot to Trot doesn’t fall into either the blockbuster or the famous thoroughbred category.

Seabiscuit – The aforementioned Seabiscuit was a rags to riches story, although slightly exaggerated in Hollywood’s portrayal but he did give the American public hope during the depression of the 1930s. In fact Seabiscuit and his “Match of the Century” victory over Man o War was the most popular story of 1938 receiving more columns of print than any person or thing that year. President Franklin D Roosevelt was second and Adolf ****** was third.

Pharlap – The Australian Wonder Horse was the subject of a fascinating movie 1983 movie bearing his name. The horse was too good; winning 37 of 51 races entered but being so good Phar Lap made some enemies. Just three days before the 1930 Melbourne cup, gangsters tried to assassinate the horse. Phar Lap survived this attempt on his life, won the Cup with the shortest odds (8/11) ever.

Afternoon Deelites – We all know what afternoon deelites are and being owned by ultra-smooth composer Burt Bacharach, makes this horse so much cooler.

That’s a Silly Name for a Horse

The Belmont Stakes has a history of crushing the dreams of Triple Crown hopefuls with 20 horses, including last years Big Brown, winning both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness stakes before succumbing to the Belmont. During the early years, the Belmont also had a strange run of winners with odd names, well odd for thoroughbred horses.

1875 – Calvin
1889 – Eric
1905 – Tanya
1908 – Colin
1928 – Vito

The Preakness Stake had a couple champions named after my aunt and uncle.
1876 – Shirley
1879 – Harold

I hope this dark period in racing’s history never repeats itself.

I’m Feeling Tipsy

The great thing about the Kentucky Derby is all the traditions that come along with the first Saturday of May. The well dressed gentlemen, the women wearing hats they’d never wear outside of Churchill downs and of course my favorite the Mint Julep. Google the recipe, it’s a fantastic combination of Kentucky Bourbon, Spearmint, Powdered Sugar and water. Many recipes won’t tell you but I will let you in on a little secret. The key to bringing out the unique tastes of a Mint Julep is to drink it from a metal cup.

Let’s have a look at a couple alcohol inspired names

Go For Gin – Mastered a sloppy track in 1994 to win the 120th Kentucky Derby an give trainer Nick Zito his second Derby winner in 4 years.

Not Bourbon – This Canadian winner of the 2008 Queen Plate could be in the running for next year’s Kentucky Derby but his name guarantees he’ll be treated like an outsider in the land of Makers Mark.

How Times Have Changed. Where was Al Sharpton, when we needed him?

We all know America hasn’t always been so cool to black people but looking back it’s pretty amazing how far the US has come. Here are some actual horses registered through the Jockey Club and the year each was registered. Multiple years means multiple horses were registered under the same name. You can kind of make a case for the horses named before the height of the civil rights movement but for the 3 horses registered after 1975 you just have to shake your head.

Tar Baby (1944, 1975, and 1985)
Uncle Remus (1944 and 1965)
Darkie (1950)
Uncle Tom (1950),
Jungle Bunny (1953)
Blackface Minstrel (1980)

The most egregious example of this lax registration finished 3rd place in the 1911 Preakness Stakes. Well let’s just say the name rhymes with bigger and is used frequently by Chris Rock and Dr. Dre.

Can they say that on Television?

Late Great Comedian Bill Hicks was ahead of his time, his comedy was often over the heads of his audience, which would result some grumbling and some heckles from an impatient audience. His answer was simple “Hold on, Hold on the **** jokes are coming.” So I’ll close with this slide dedicated to the **** jokes of the horseracing world. Here are some of the most risqu?, sexually suggestive and down right dirty horse names from the past 150 years.

Lagnaf – (1978) An acronym for Let’s all get *****…I’ll let you figure out the rest

Wrecked Em (1983)
Golden Shower (1955)
Bodacious Tatas (1985)
Blow Me (1945)
Cum Rocket (1969)
Date More Minors (1998)

And finally I’ll close with two of the best.

In 1969 there was a horse that raced at Aqueduct called Cunning Stunt, say that 5 times fast.
And of course the Youtube sensation Hoof Hearted.

Tabby Cats

Claudia Escobar asked:

The tabby cat is the best known type of cat. Indeed, tabby cats are the most common of domestic cats. In fact, the tabby pattern is believed to be the pattern of the cat’s wild ancestors.

Tabby is not a cat breed. It is not a color either. In fact, the tabby pattern occurs in different cat breeds and it comes in different colors. Tabby is a pattern.

Tabby patterns

The tabby pattern may include swirls, stripes, whorls, and spots. There are four tabby patterns: the classic, the mackerel, the ticked, and the spotted.

Classic (or blotched) tabbies are one of the most common. This type of tabby will have swirls and clearly defined stripes all over the body. Usually, a thick band or stripe will run all the way from the neck to the tail.

Mackerel tabbies are also very common. Many in fact believe that this is the original pattern dating back to the wild African cats. The mackerel pattern will display vertical stripes at the sides of the body and rings around the legs and tail.

The spotted pattern is said to be a different version of the mackerel pattern. In this pattern, the stripes are broken into big spots all aligned in a single file.

Ticked tabbies are very interesting. At first glance they don’t seem to be tabby cats at all. They don’t come with the usual whorls, swirls and stripes. They would appear to be of a solid color. Upon a closer look, however, you will see that the fur of ticked tabbies has stripes and swirls.

Tabbies also come in different color variations: you will find red tabbies, silver tabbies, and brown tabbies – to name a few. The tabby pattern also occurs in different cat breeds, including the Bengal, the Bombay and the Egyptian Mau.

The Importance Of Pet Insurance

Jason Hulott asked:

While most of us never think twice about getting home contents insurance – after all, it is not compulsory – it is surprising how many pet owners do not take out pet insurance.

Yet, you are three times more likely to need to make a claim on your pet insurance (if you have it) compared to your contents insurance!

Many cat and dog owners see pet insurance as unnecessary, yet every year, one in three pets make an unexpected trip to the vet, meaning their owner will need to find the money to pay for their treatment. These costs can literally run into hundreds – sometimes even thousands – of pounds.

As example, when 12 year old Timmy – a Bombay cat – was adopted from a local rescue by the Ashcroft family, they immediately got him checked over by their vet and then took out pet insurance at a cost of ?10.85 a month.

Mrs Ashcroft says: “Having been a cat owner for many years, and knowing how vets bills can mount up, it seemed the natural thing to insure Timmy. We are so glad we did now. Just four months after we took out the insurance, a routine check up showed up a heart murmur. Diagnostic tests to discover just how the bad the problem was, plus ongoing medication and visits to the vet cost us well over ?700 in just a year.

“After that, further tests revealed a thyroid problem. Medication, tests and a operation the following year cost us another ?700-odd. Thankfully, our insurance covered most of these costs – we only had an ?80 excess to pay. Timmy will be on medication for the rest of his life and will need twice-yearly check ups, and the insurance policy will pay for this. It’s comforting to know that we can afford to give him the best medical treatment and attention for the rest of his life”.

There are many specialist insurance companies offering pet insurance for your pet, from rats, rabbits and reptiles through to cats, dogs and horses, at affordable prices. And while cover varies from provider to provider and depends on the type of pet you are insuring, as a basic rule, injuries and illnesses are covered. (You should note that preventative treatment, such as vaccinations or dentals are not covered).

Each time you claim for a separate injury or illness, you will be expected to pay an excess – rather like your car or home insurance.

When choosing the right policy for you and your pet, bear in mind that while the concept is the same for all the insurers, each has its own terms, conditions and criteria. The following should be taken into consideration:

o Check that there is no limit on how long you can claim for each illness. For example, if your cat need tablets to control heart problems, or your dog has arthritis, the problem will need to be controlled for the rest of their life, not just a year or 24 months

o Check that the limit per illness is realistic – over time treatment for a single illness can cost hundreds of pounds

o Check that your pet will still be covered in later life when they will need it most. Some insurers terminate policies when a pet reaches a certain age

o Look out for special discounts, such as those offered in multi-pet households and for pensioners.

Video Slot Machine Hot List of Summer 2008 – Reviews of the Newest & Hottest Machines

Shaun Patrick Davidson asked:

As we close out the summer of 2008, casinos worldwide have had the distinct pleasure of hosting the debut of some of the most fantastic video slot machines from all of the popular manufacturers. From what I can remember, 2008 has had the most new releases that I have seen in distant memory. And to hark back fond memories, the huge impact to more gaming choices rivaled those of the summer of 1999 when IGT released it’s prime time set of hugely acclaimed classics like Enchanted Unicorn, Little Green Men, Leopard Spots and Double Diamond 2000 to just name a few. What is it about this year that the entire industry just decided to open a Pandora’s box of new flavor titles, and what seems to be the popular theme for this year and beyond?

Let’s start off with the newest and the best of IGT. There is no denying that this company has set the bar high with it’s most innovative games around. But what exactly did they do to make a huge impact? First of all, IGT has used the innovative and professionally crafted ideas around to cater to all slot players. From what I have seen in 2008, the main driver and popular idea are the “stacked wilds” and “free spins” concepts. Everybody that I have personally interviewed agree that the stacked wilds feature is one of the most exciting features in gaming today. One player even went as far to proclaim, “you just get more chances to win for the buck, I’ve won $100 from a dollar many times”. It’s an exciting phenomenon around, as these popular games are always packed with players waiting in lines to play the next one. Some of the scorching hot “stacked wilds” games this year include Wolf Run, Wild Wolf, Lil’ Lady, 100 Wolves, Arctic Fox, Bombay, Desert Spirit, Grand Monarch, Red Lions and the innovator, Coyote Moon. All of the fore-mentioned games feature multi-stacked wild reels and a free spins bonus that gets players five or more spins with the chance to re-trigger bonuses. A truly thrilling and adventurous feature found through IGT’s popular games.

And probably the most obvious feature to be found on most video slots is the “free spins” bonus feature. These games feature a bonus round within’ the game that nets players extra spins at no extra cost. Players are forever in a love spin with this fantastic feature and just about every manufacturer has taken advantage of this thrilling chase for big winnings. Some of the summer’s newest blockbusters from IGT include: Noah’s Ark, Lotus Flower, Super Happy Fortune Cat, Davinci Diamonds/Rembrandt Riches, Cash Cove, Golden Gate Multi-Way, Space for Rent, Diamond Queen, Witches Riches and so much more. And the great thing about these games is that players can monitor the bets according to what’s comfortable with them. Bet as little or as much all the way up to dollar bets, and pennies being the lowest denominator. There are more free spin games available everywhere than there was a couple years ago and they’re more popular now than ever!

And what’s hot from other manufacturers? Aristocrat still has its super popular lineup of hot games with some of the fore-mentioned features. Some hot hits include 50 lions, Sun and Moon, Tiki Torch, and Easter Island to name a few. Additionally, Williams Gaming is remaking some of it’s classic played hits like Reel Em In with fantastic graphics and a tremendous gaming engine that the company has been known for in years. A company to keep your eye on in the coming years as they make a comeback run for success. And let us not forget some of those mystery progressive machines available. The newest slot featured this month is Ebay from IGT. Up to six players can play at one shot while a huge slot monitor rises high above for the bonus round. The great thing about this design is that everyone gets the bonus at the same time, and it comes up in a mystery progressive fashion. Excitement runs high as everybody is cheering on the huge winning combinations on the big screen and everybody receives multipliers for every winning hit. And don’t count out Fort Knox, Party Time, World Poker Tour, Wheel of Fortune, and other mystery progressives, as these are hot machines on a busy weekend. Hopefully this article gave slot players an inside look at the hot and steamy 2008 and what manufacturers have in store for you in the coming years. It will be exciting to see what new features we will see on the horizons!

Bombay – The Facts Every Owner Of This Cat Breed Should Know

Robert Benjamin asked:

The Bombay was developed by breeder Nikki Horner in Louisville, Kentucky in 1958. She set out to create a ‘miniature black panther’ by crossing a sable Burmese with a solid black American Shorthair. Though her initial attempts were unsuccessful, she persisted and by 1976, the Bombay was recognized as a distinct breed of cat. Bombays are muscular cats with an all black coat. Some are born with the recessive trait of a sable coat. Though this does not indicate any deficiency in the cat, it is considered undesirable for a Bombay and will only be sold as a family pet and not a show cat. This black coat is short and satiny and does not require any special grooming (though regular petting or brushing will help to get the dead hair off – but a Bombay will usually groom itself).

Bombays mature quickly and are considered ‘adult’ between six and nine months. The average male will weigh eight to ten pounds and the average female will weigh between six and eight pounds. Both will live an average of twelve to twenty years. Bombays are described as ‘lap cats.’ They truly enjoy the company of its family and will always seek out a lap on which to sit or someone to play with them.

Bombays crave companionship from family members and will follow them from room to room of the house in order to be part of the action. This is not a shy cat. Unlike many other breeds, a Bombay will enthusiastically greet visitors and want to see what is happening. They make excellent family pets for this reason. Bombays will do all right with other family pets, but need to be socialized properly. They have a tendency to dominate other pets in the household, which can lead to trouble if not attended to. Bombays are also loud cats with a purr that can be heard up to fifteen feet away.

Though an active breed, Bombays prefer calmer environments without many loud, startling noises. Too much exposure to this and they will develop a nervous disorder in which they loose hair from their stomachs and tails. Some Bombays are prone to Burmese Craniofacial Defect, a genetic disorder that affects the development of the skull in the fetus. Occasionally, kittens from lines that carry this defect will be born with severely deformed heads. This genetic disorder is a result of some crossbreeding with Burmese cats. The diet of a Bombay should be monitored easily as they are prone to obesity.

There is a website that has great information on Bombays and most other breeds of cats. It has details that pertain to a cat breeds health, grooming, living conditions, best food choices and more, the website is called: Dog And Cat Facts, and can be found at this url:

CBSE Sample Papers and Guess Papers

Saumil Shri asked:

CBSE date sheet 2011 is soon to be announced. Class 10th & 12th date sheet and detailed exam schedule is released by the CBSE board for the convenience of the students taking the board exams 2011. CBSE sample & guess papers are available from a number of sources.

CBSE Sample Papers & Guess Papers

CBSE papers and guess papers are basically developed on the lines of the actual CBSE papers. The trends for various years are taken into consideration and papers will typical questions are prepared as sample tests are prepared. Guess papers are also made the same way.

Students can procure CBSE guess papers from a number of sources. Online education portals carry multiple sample papers that can be either downloaded or taken online. CBSE tests available as online tests are usually timed tests. Such tests are a great to work on the test taking speed. There are tactics and strategies as well to improve the speed and the score.

For improving the test taking speed for CBSE sample & guess papers, a quick analysis of all the questions in the CBSE question paper is advised. This quick skimming would give an idea of the easiest and the most difficult questions. Accordingly the candidate should take the easiest questions first, moderate questions next and the difficult set of questions in the end. This approach works well in securing the maximum marks.

Apart from online source of sample practice tests, another source for procuring the CBSE question papers and guess tests is book stores. All book stores that sell academic books sell a bunch of the CBSE tests compiled in a book form. Class Xth & XIIth students can take the collection of these papers for each subject. They usually contain important questions for previous years. These can also be practiced as timed tests to gain the maximum benefit out of the practice session being spent with them.

Besides, it is important to have a defined strategy and revision time schedule. The schedule needs to be designed in a way that there is ample time for revision of all the subjects. Before candidates moves to practice sample papers & other papers, a thorough comprehension of the concepts & important theories is required. Students should complete the CBSE syllabus first and then practice. The CBSE exam schedule 2011 will be announced soon.

Laughter As Medicine

Donna L. Watkins asked:

God’s Word says: “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22)

The original Hebrew definitions:

merry = blithe, gleeful, be glad, joyful, making merry

medicine = a cure

The word for medicine is used only once in Hebrew in the entire Old Testament. I thought that was very interesting. We see that a joyful heart cures, while a broken spirit kills. Did you know that the marrow in our bones has a lot to do with our immune system functioning to keep us alive? You’ve heard of “bone marrow transplants” for some diseases of the immune system. They are learning more about the Truth of Scripture every day in the field of medicine.

Norman Cousins is best known for bringing these facts to light. He was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, a degenerative auto-immune disease of the connective tissue. Cousins, former editor of the US Saturday Review, stopped taking drugs and self-prescribed a new regime of pain killers. When the pain became unbearable, Cousins would watch videos of Laurel and Hardy and the Marx Brothers. Fifteen minutes of giggling could provide him with up to two hours of pain relief. This increase of pain threshold during and after laughing episodes has since been confirmed in studies.

People, doctors and health care workers are finding that laughter may indeed be the best medicine. Laughing removes stress hormones, and boosts immune function by raising levels of T-cells, disease-fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon, and B-cells, which produce disease-destroying antibodies.

Laughter also triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers, and produces a general sense of well-being. Hospitals are incorporating laughter therapy programs into their therapeutic recommendations. The threshold of pain is raised during and for a short period of time after laughter.

Laughter engages various parts of the brain. Derks from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg showed that humor pulls the various parts of the brain together rather than activating a component in only one area. Perhaps this is one reason why people often find that a dose of lengthy laughter can be followed by a burst of creativity and group problem solving. It is also a good cardiovascular workout. It increases the activity of the heart and stimulates circulation. In addition, after the laughter subsides, the cardiovascular system goes into a state of relaxation.

In 1995, a new organization emerged in Bombay, India: Laughter Club International. This was the brain child of Dr. Madan Kataria, a Bombay physician who believes that laughter is good for the heart and soul. Participants gather in the morning for the sole purpose of laughing. Humor is a universal language. It’s a contagious emotion and brings other people in to break down barriers. It’s also free and has no known side reactions.

Being in the natural health industry for 20 years, I had heard of Norman Cousins before. I was recently reminded of him after an evening of laughter. Since rheumatoid arthritis is one of my health challenges, I’m familiar with pain. My husband and I had decided to give ballroom dancing another try. I have always loved dancing, but after getting married and trying many months of Arthur Murray lessons, I realized that dancing was something not to be placed on the list of benefits received from the marriage partnership. No great loss, considering the long list of other benefits I received.

We’re going to be celebrating our 25th anniversary in April and there’s a group of folks that get together in our community at the clubhouse to dance. The couple that began it all teaches for free and it’s a very relaxed, fun group. I figured I’d give it another try. Although 24 years later, I didn’t have much hope of really dancing, but decided that I would consider it great exercise as long as I didn’t get my toes stepped on.

I was amazed to find that Randal picked up the steps as fast as the man could show them. I was giddy with laughter through the whole evening, just for the sheer humor of what God does in the little details of my life. My husband commented that it was a real workout since more muscles were hurting than when he played tennis. I expected to pay the price the next day, but knew it was worth it.

Much to my amazement, I slept great and awoke early with so much energy that by 9 AM I had accomplished what usually took me till noon to do. I knew I was having one of those “terrific days” that you’d like to can and spoon feed to yourself daily. They usually come for me in the early days of Spring when you feel so alive from everything bursting forth with life.

I didn’t think about where it came from until I saw an article on “humor therapy,” and then I realized what had happened from that event. My laughter had indeed stimulated all kinds of good things for my body and the effects were amazing! Needless to say, we will continue dancing, although I will probably have to find another source for laughter, since I can’t laugh myself silly throughout each dance session.

Norman Cousins wrote a book: “Anatomy of an Illness: As Perceived by the Patient.”
