Faylina M asked:
I got this new kitten a few weeks ago, we took him to the vet because he was sneezing all the time, vet said he had a small kitten cold and we had him on antibiotics and it seemed to go away. For a couple of days he was running around playing with our other aniaml (a full grown 3 year old cat). Now my kitten is very depressed looking, doesn’t want to move, eat, drink, or go to the bathroom, he has urinated once but thats it. In the past my cat had a problem with hair balls (my other one) so i gave me kitten a teaspoon of veg oil to see if maybe he had a hairball but to no avail he STILL won’t go to the potty.
The other problem is my 3 yr old cat is now sneezing a good bit, like my kitten was when she was sick. Other then that shes fine, playful and otherwise normal.
How long should I wait before I take my kitten to the vet, should i do it immediately? Hes also from a animal rescue if thats helpful.
Should I worry about the minor sneezing of my other cat?
Please help!!!
More info:
My kitten two days ago vomited a few times but we figured its because he gorged himself on food (which he WAS doing)
My kitten was neg for feline luk when in the animal shelter and my other day is vaccinated but was at one point around cats who were FL positive.
Should there be concern for this that they both might have FL?
My kitten was also gaining weight until the day he vomited and now seems hes back down to where he was two weeks ago when I got him.
Hes about 15 weeks old.
I decided to call my Vet while I was waiting for responses. I am taking my kitten to the Vet today. My cat doesn’t need to go to the vet but will take her in if she doesn’t get over the sneezing.
It sounds like your cat has some health issues. Your best is to take your kitty to a vet for a full check up.
Kitty colds are very contagious. Odds are that your other cat has it now. I would take them both in.
Take your pet to the vet, only they can help you. Would you ask for medical advice online about your children???
Please take him to the vet. He needs help!
Are they playing under somewhere that could be dusty?
Have you tried a different food? Give lots of water and fresh food in his own dish.
Kiss him and pet him lots because if he feels lotsa love he’ll fight sickness much better.
Sounds exactly like my situation except in reverse. My 6 month old was the first to get sick and now my kitten is sick. I quarentined them for the first day and a half until i could get the new kitten to the vet. she has had all of he vaccinations now, tested negative for FL, has been wormed, and given preventative treatments for fleas, ticks and mites.
Weekend before last my 6 month old was barfing for 12 hrs straight after she ate. i took her to the emergency vet and they did x-rays and physical exam…nothing found. Told me to withhold food for 8 hrs then feed small meals every 3-4 hrs. She did fine after that but then barfed again this morning. It was clear and looked like it MIGHT have hair in it. The other kitten was hacking this morning almost like she had something up her nose and has had runny poops.
I don’t know what else to do but $175 last weekend said there was nothing wrong???
So the advice they gave me was only serve canned food until the kitty was feeling back to normal. i guess it is easier to digest and less likely to dehydrate them. Try that with your kitty that won’t eat. I have also heard and been told that if your kitty won’t go number 2 you can try canned pumpkin. The kind that is pure pumpkin, not the spiced up pie filling. Feed a small amount and that will bulk up the stools and sometimes help push out any blockages. Try that but also call your vet. Good luck!!
ok they left some rude comments but i think your doing the rite thing…you should deffinatly bring your older cat to the vet and bring the little one too (again) if he’s eating again but he’s vomiting it all up he needs a check up… It’s good he’s eating but not so good for the puke..poor babe…my kitty gypsy is also unhealthy in a way… she has fleas that cause white soars and puss all over her lip..well i hope it is fleas, but i doubt it… anyway…our doctar gave us some advice and it worked, but she has it again..oh and the sneezing could also be allergies…
Hope they are both back to normal soon…Good luck
