My new kitten is 4 months and 2 weeks old. Sometime in the spring I would like to get another kitten so she can have some company. She is a very sweet kitten and loves anyone and anything. She is a tabby kitten. What is the best age to adopt another kitten for a playmate for my kitten?
She is a female kitten if this helps too!
dont fights break out if there the same sex or thell be making more kittens
two females get along fine but two males will fight…any age is fine, they will get along fine…I have 4 cats
I don’t think the age really matters. The younger the kitties are, the faster they’ll warm up to each other. It’s easier to introduce two kittens or an adult and a kitten then two grown cats.
I just got another kitten (3 months old) for my 1.5 year old cat, and it took a few days, but they warmed up to each other pretty well. Expect some hissing at first, but it shouldn’t be too difficult after that.
the best age is to get one that is within 2 months of your current one.. this is for ease of feeding.. since kittens need to be on kitten food until 8 months – 1 year.. if you have kittens too different in age it will be VERY hard to feed them seperately
they will not like each other at first but if you introduce them SLOWLY and dont rush things it will all work out.. I adopted 4 adult cats at differnet times and all is good…
VERY IMPORTANT – DO NOT take a free – unvaccinated pet for your new one.. this can bring home worms, or disease to your current pet OR your current pet could pass a disease to the kitten but not get sick becuase I would assume your current one is vaccinated…
in the long run its better to adopt one that is already vaccinated dewormed etc and comes with health guarantees…
female or male wont matter as long as you are SURE you will have them fixed…
there are 2-3 million cats euthanized every year because of not enough homes – so dont contribute to the problem
I got mine at the same time, but they were abandoned kitties who were turned into my vet long before they should’ve been seperated from their mother and we didn’t want to seperate them from eachother.
