The kitten seems to prefer eating adult cat food!
I was leaving both kitten food down, and adult cat food down in another bowl (for my cat). I’m worried that the kitten isnt getting enough nutrients from the adult cat food (or that maybe the adult cat food is causing this terrible gas).
If I leave only the kitten food down will it hurt my adult cat? (I heard somewhere that adult cats should not eat kitten food. again, my adult cat is 2 years old)

I think cat food is manufactured to be healthy to all cats, or most cats. My concern is that he’s either overly nervous or he might have IBS. Call a vet and see what they say. Bet he’s a cute little stinker
well then just feed it adult food then if the cat isnt getting better i would consider taking it to the vet.
why don’t you put both cats in different rooms with their food untill they are done eating, and then put it back down for them later…that way they don’t get into eachothers food. i’ve never heard what kitten food can do to an adult cat but the kitten definatly needs it to get all the nutrients he needs and grow healthy
kittens should eat only kitten food, they need the extra nutrients. I recommend buying a different food if that one is bothering her stomach. Also, it is important to feed high quality food. If you are unsure of a good quality food, go to your local pet store and ask someone who works there.
I have a kitten with cats and put out both foods (sometimes the adults eat the kitten chow and vice versa). But there is a type of cat food with more calories by Purina that says for multiple cat ages households. I would still set out kitten food…maybe try a different brand or some canned kitten food or some extra people “meat” (leftovers) as a treat for extra protein and calories? Kittens have a lot of energy and need different vitamins and more calories than cats.
kitten food wouldn’t hurt your adult cat. If it’s only for a short period of time it’s ok. What you could do, you could put your adult cat’s food higher, like on a counter. somewhere the kitten can’t reach.
Wouldn’t harm your cat to eat kitten food. It’ll just make him fat if he eats lots of it.lol
My first question for you is what kind of food are you feeding? If it’s store-bought food (9-lives, Cat Chow, etc) than the food is mainly “fillers” (corn, grains, rice, etc) and yes, this is what’s causing his gas. Cat’s are naturally picky eaters and to solve both of these problems you may want to try different brands.
Kitten or adult food will not hurt either one of your cats. There is such a small nutritional difference between the two kinds that it won’t cause any harm to them.
I got a kitten with bad gas as well. He also doesn’t like kitten food. With his first time to the vet told them and they said it is ok as long as he is eating. As for the bad gas don.t know. air fresher.
If the kitten food and adult food are of the same brand – the adult food should not cause gas…
where you will get gas is from LOW QUALITY foods.. those using lots of fillers – (also they use fat to give the pets a glossy coat – most owners think a shiney coat = healthy cat = good food ) because cats have to eat a lot more of the low quality stuff to get any nutrition they eat a lot more fat and alot more stuff they cannot really digest well = MORE GAS. Fat is addictive – so foods with fat are ones that attract pets…
problems in food are found easy – if CORN a top ingredient – its a crappy food.. if By-Products are ANYWHERE on the lable – its a crappy food (by-products are beaks feet and feathers – basically any junk that isnt really food)
kittens NEED protein for brain development – adult food (particularly low quality food) doesnt have enough protein.
The kitten should be kept in a room to itself so it can eat ONLY kitten food…
a good ingredient to look for is YUCCA – it helps control odors…
when you feed better foods they actually eat less and poop less too!!!
on another note – pets should NEVER be given as Christmas Presents… and should never be given to kids… a kid cannot assume a LIFETIME commitment to the pet – I hope your mom realizes this and is willing to look after the kitten 100% if your sister doesnt.. and most of all I really hope the kitten was NOT from a pet store…..
Christmas is a hectic time – its a scarey time to introduce a new pet – either give it before hand or after but please NOT on that day….
When I adopted my two cats from the cat shelter, they both had terrible gas. My vet eventually diagnosed them with Giardia and they had to take medicine to get rid of it, now are gas-free.
JUST, I think cats will eat any type of cat food, but some will avoid certain types, like mine, she just wants one type of food and won’t drink water from her bowl! I don’t think the food will cause gas, but you may have to take your cat to a VET, it might have something else that’s causing gas! Have a good day! Take care! Jimmy.
